Ceremonial awarding of honorary doctorates of Mendel University in Brno

13 September 2023, in the auditorium of Mendel University in Brno, the French microbiologist, geneticist and biochemist Emmanuelle Charpentier was awarded the honorary degree of doctor honoris causa.

Professor Charpentier is a joint winner of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with American biochemist Jennifer Doudna for the development of a method for genome editing (via CRISPR).

13 September 2022, in the auditorium of Mendel University in Brno, the honorary scientific degree of doctor honoris causa was awarded to plant geneticist prof. Ing. Jaroslav Doležel, DrSc.

Professor Doležel is an internationally renowned plant geneticist who was one of the first in the world to develop a method for determining the size of the nuclear genome of plants using flow cytometry and was instrumental in its standardization.

Sir Paul Maxime Nurse 31. 1. 2020

31 January 2020, the honorary scientific degree of doctor honoris causa was awarded to the English geneticist, cell biologist, professor of microbiology Sir Paul Maxime Nurse in the auditorium of Mendel University in Brno.

Sir Paul Maxime Nurse won the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physiology for his discoveries of key cell cycle regulators.
