Ethics Committee of Mendel University in Brno

The Ethics Committee is established to consider complaints regarding compliance with the Code of Conduct for employees, students and graduates
It is the Rector's advisory committee according to the Statutes of Mendel University in Brno . You can also contact the chair of the committee with suggestions related to compliance with the principles in research, development and artistic activities. The Chairperson has the right to refer these suggestions to the Rector for the establishment of an Ethics Committee for Integrity of Research and Innovation. According to the given initiative, the members of the committee are appointed on an ad hoc basis with regard to their discipline-specific research, development and artistic activities.

The organisation, conduct and activities of the Ethics Committee shall be governed by The Rules of Procedure of the Ethics Committee.

The organisation, conduct and activities of the Ethics Committee for Integrity of Research and Innovation shall be governed by Statutes and Rules of Procedure of the Ethics Committee for Integrity of Research and Innovation.

Human Research Ethics Committee

The Committee deals with the ethical aspects of research activities involving human subjects, with the exception of activities falling within the scope of the Ethics Committee at Mendel University in Brno.
The Committee assesses the expected scientific merit of the research, the design, suitability and feasibility of the research project, and approves research projects involving human subjects.
The Committee pays particular attention to the protection of vulnerable or dependent persons involved in research.
In addition, the Committee serves as an advisory body, therefore, researchers may consult ethical aspects of their projects with this Committee as well.

The organisation, conduct and activities of the Ethics Committee shall be governed by Statutes and Rules of Procedure of the Human Subject Research Ethics Committee.

Assessment documents:

  • Application for assessment of a research project - with this form you can contact the Ethics Committee for Research with Human Subjects for a risk assessment of the research project.
    Risks assessed: misleading of participants/misleading information, unreasonable risk of harm to participants compared to its scientific value, participation of vulnerable persons (children, dependent persons, ...)
  • Informed consent - a template form to be prepared in advance for the participants and also submitted to the EC for research with human subjects. (Not necessary in case of anonymous questionnaires.)
  • Consent to the processing of personal data - This form must be prepared when information (or combinations of data) may lead to the identification of a person (e.g. email address, location data, IP address, date of birth, video recording, audio recording) or when sensitive information such as personal data revealing racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, health-related data, data relating to sex life or sexual orientation is processed as part of a research project.

The organisation, conduct and activities of the Ethics Committee shall be governed by Statutes and Rules of Procedure of Ethics Committees for the Treatment of Animals, which are expert committees for ensuring the welfare of experimental animals at Mendel University in Brno.
Submitted experimental projects and their non-technical summaries should be sent to the committee chairs by email (see contacts above).
