Research Data

Research data refers to "information, other than scientific publications, in electronic form that is collected or generated in the course of research or development and is used as evidence in the research or development process or that is generally accepted by the research community as necessary to validate the findings and results of the research or development."

Research data is information collected, documented, compiled or created to confirm the veracity of the original research results. It is not publications, but all materials used and collected, and analysed to obtain scientific knowledge and to produce scientific outputs such as publications.

Research data can exist in digital or non-digital forms and it does not mean „only numerical data“. Data can be:

  • Videoclips
  • Statistics
  • Graphs
  • Transcripts
  • Audio files
  • Transcribed interviews
  • Data from experiments
  • Programming code and many others

There are many different ways of how to compile research data. To keep a good practice and also for better orientation in your research, it is necessary to follow the standards for research data management and create a Data management plan for every research project you conduct.
